Pinguino's Gelato Cuts $1,200 a Year in Software Costs and Keeps Their Great Rate

Pinguino's Gelato

A Provo gelato shop trims more than $1,200 a year in software costs and keeps the low interchange plus rate they already had, all while gaining loyalty, marketing, and instant access to their sales.

A Good Rate, Buried Under Software Costs

Pinguino's Gelato is a neighborhood favorite in Provo, Utah, serving small-batch gelato to a loyal crowd of regulars. Behind the counter, though, the setup was costing more than it needed to. The shop was paying for a stack of separate software subscriptions to cover the tools a modern dessert shop relies on, and those monthly charges added up to roughly $100 every month.

The one thing they did have going for them was pricing. Their previous provider had them on a genuinely low interchange plus rate, and understandably, they did not want to lose it. Most shops in that position feel stuck: keep the good rate and keep overpaying for software, or switch systems and watch the processing costs climb.

Keeping the Rate, Cutting the Stack

BridgeWave moved Pinguino's to Square and structured the account so they did not have to choose. We matched the low interchange plus rate they already had from their previous provider, so the switch cost them nothing on the processing side.

On the software side, the savings were immediate. Square brought the tools they had been paying for separately into one platform: loyalty to keep regulars coming back, marketing to reach customers between visits, and banking that gives them instant access to their sales, both direct and third party. That consolidation eliminated about $100 a month in software subscriptions, more than $1,200 a year back in the business.

The Result

Pinguino's now runs on one system that handles the register, the loyalty program, the marketing, and the money. Same low rate they had before, a simpler setup, and over $1,200 a year in software costs gone. And when they need help, they call BridgeWave and talk to a person, not a chatbot.
